I started fishing when I was 3 or 4 - catching Moses Perch, Bream & Flathead in the Maroochydore River in the mid to late 50s where my family had an old timber fishing shack .....then Pittwater in the 60s, then I had a break for 20 years whilst finishing school & going to college & working. When I moved to NZ in the 80s, I got back into my fishing, BIG TIME, fishing for snapper & Kawahai in the Coromandel where we had a caravan permanently placed & even learned to fly fish, with my best trout being a tad under 10lb in Lake Tarawera.
Moving to Forster in 1999, Wallis Lake re-ignited my love of fishing & after retiring from work in 2002, I purchased my first yak - a Sit In Fishing Kayak - followed by a Hobie Sport in 2007. I then started targetting flatties on soft plastics in the oyster leases and in the last few years, finally cracked the code for getting good bream on both SPs and HBs. The Hands Free style of fishing that the Hobie Mirage Drive allows gives amazing control & freedom to fish on the move and even 'pedal away' with a big fish on - skull dragging it away from structure if necessary. Since then, I have been fishing Wallis Lake for Bream, Flathead, Luderick, Whiting and Tailor and local rivers and Qld dams for bass. I particularly love fishing with Topwater Lures and have shown many anglers how to catch fish using this style. I have been known to leave a social gathering, to go fishing, if the time & tides were spot on!!
I reckon I've got the best backyard to play in, in the whole of Australia!
I fished a few of the early ABT Kayak Fishing Comps on the Mid North Coast - with 7th Place in Camden Haven being my best result. I look forward to terrific association with Searing Tackle and am looking forward to fishing with the Damiki & Pontoon 21 HB lures and soft plastics
