Name: Jarryd Aleckson
Location: Brisbane North
Occupation – IT Systems AdministratorBackground – Coming from a Commercial prawn and tuna fishing background, I have always been around fishing. As they say it’s in my blood. I began fishing at a very early age with my dad, drifting flats with whitebait for flathead, live yabbies on sandbanks for whiting and rock structures for other bread and butter species like bream and trevally.
As I got older my old man started taking me offshore to target species like Mulloway and Snapper off the north coast near Evans Head.
I grew up in a small northern NSW town of Warialda, a town located in the New England region so Murray Cod and Golden Perch were a regular target for me. Regularly fishing the Gwydir and Dumaresq rivers I spend a lot of time targeting these fish in my early years.
In my late teens life took over and fishing took a backseat for a few years, about 3 years ago I decided to pull the rod from storage and go for a flick, this is when the real passion ignited and everything snowballed from here.
The extra challenge of catching fish on lures appealed to my competitive nature and has taken a lot of my time, perfecting and learning new techniques, trying different styles of lure and learning about characteristics of different fish.
Ambitions for this year – Compete in the Hobie Bass and Bream rounds. Qualify for a grand final. Finish in the top 10 AOY.
Favourite fishing areas – Impoundment fishing for Bass has quickly become my preferred area, Having to work the fish out day after day keeps me coming back. I also love fishing shallow reef structures and rock walls with light plastics and hard bodies for species like bream, Snapper and Jew
