I've been fishing since a young age, growing up in Melbourne Victoria. I would often be out fishing with my Dad or the family at every opportunity.
In high school, friends introduced me to course fishing. We would fish for roach, carp, redfin and trout in the local waters. I had some great days out fishing with my school mates when I was younger, Idolising fishermen like Rex Hunt, Bushy and Steve Starling.
This soon led to me purchasing a fly rod and learning the art of fly fishing. I mainly fished for trout in the upper reaches of the Yarra river. My passion for fishing has been with me all my life. I was lucky enough to live in the US for 5 years and during this time I expanded on my fishing skills. At every opportunity I would fish for bass, pickerel and fly fishing for brook trout. During the winter months I would ice fish.
When I moved back to Australia I relocated to Adelaide. Four years ago I was debating whether to buy a boat or a kayak. Friends convinced me to buy a kayak and recommended the hobie for their hands free fishing abilities. After purchasing my hobie outback, I hit up many of the local waters, perfecting the art of kayak fishing. Soon after, I decided to enter in an ABT event in West lakes, South Australia for bream. Never having targeted bream before especially with lures and plastics, I managed to finish 3rd and qualified for the Grand Final. Being my first competition this certainly fuelled my addiction and renewed my passion for fishing in a new way.
I very rarely use baits these days, instead favouring lures and plastics. A lot of my enjoyment comes from landing big bream on really light gear - its a great feeling! I love the excitement of competing in fishing tournaments, the friendships I have made all over Australia, and the knowledge I have gained. I have also travelled interstate for a few comps - Bemm ,Mallacoota, Port Macquarie , Forster ,Nelson and Warnambool just to name a few.
I am happily married to a very supportive wife and have a beautiful baby girl that I cant wait to be able to take her out and teach her all about fishing.
My favorite Species to target are: Bream, Flatties, King Gorge whiting, yellow fin whiting, snapper, Australian Salmon, and even squid.
My Favorite Fisheries are: Westlakes and the Port River, Onkaparinga River and off the local metro waters. Interstate I like the Gippsland estuaries.
